I usually make meatballs to put into my home made spaghetti sauce. The recipe for the sauce follows too. It's made in the slow cooker.
Ingredients:
1 pound hamburg or ground chuck
1 egg
1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs
1 tablespoons romano parmesean grated cheese
1/3 cup chopped onion
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Spaghetti sauce to cook meatballs in:
1 crock pot disposable liner (makes clean up easier)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
1 small zuchinni, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 14.5 cans diced tomatoes
5 15 ounce cans tomato sauce
1 6 ounce can tomato puree
2 bay leafs
2 teaspoon dried sweet basil
1 teaspoon oregano
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper (careful with this stuff, it's hot)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
for garnish freshly grated ramano cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Make meatballs by combining all meatball ingredients in a large bowl.
Mix well.
Place meatballs on a foil lined cookie sheet (also helps cleanup) and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
You could also saute the meatballs in a frypan with a little olive oil, but the oven method makes less frying grease mess.
When golden brown add to spaghetti sauce in the crock pot.
Sauce Directions:
Add all sauce ingredients in a large crock pot,
My crock pot is 6 quart.
Stir to blend.
Add meatballs
Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours on low.
Of course you could cook these all on top of the stove, but the slow cooker with liner makes a whole lot less mess.
