This casserole is based on French Onion Soup -- that's why it's called "Fobulous". The taste is just as fabulous as the soup.
--1 pound ground beef
--4 10.5 ounce cans French onion soup
--2 package penne pasta
--1/2 pound shredded Provolone cheese (or about 12 slices cut thin strips)
--2 10.5 ounce cans cream of mushroom soup
1. Bring French onion soup to a low boil and heat at that low heat for 10 minutes.
2. Cook the ground beef in s skillet and drain any fat. Then add it to the soup and simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes.
3. Remove from heat and drain, reserving about 1.5 cups of liquid.
4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
5. Cook the penne pasta until it is al dente. Drain and toss in the reserved liquid and the cream of mushroom soup (do NOT add milk to the soup).
6. Pour half the pasta mixture into a greased baking dish. Cover it with half the cheese. Then repeat this step.
7. Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees F, then broil for about 5 minutes or until cheese slightly browns.
8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving so it has time to set and be easier to cut servings.
